Ciao a tutti!

Message par vale77 le Lun 27 Mar 2017 - 4:15

Hi everybody, my name is Valeria and I'm Italian.Since a year ago I did't know metal clay, I worked sometimes with polymerclay but I'm very intrigued by metal clay so I bought a dremel torch and some artclay silver but I think silver is a little too expensive to practic. so I took some white bronze but I discovered that can't be torch fired. now I have some bronze and some copper and I'm trying to understand how to work with those two. reading on some facebook groups it seems that I need to buy a kiln to make bigger things and to cook them well, now nost of the time my piececes are not a success. but I don't work and my creations do not have success so I'm trying to understand if the kiln is really necessary and what kind is better, I saw prometheus1 but it is very expensive and it seems very small. I would like also to understand what can I really do with the kiln. fusing metal scrap?creating glass or ceramic jewels? So you can see I'm very confused, I hope you can help me make some clarity sunny
thank you

Welcome!
I would say that before buying an expensive kiln you could try a little one like the Meteor M40 Cloud..... it's not very expensive and it make a lot of things!
I'm fond of mine and I'm not the only one!
With the M40 you can fire metal clay, glass clay and make fusing!!
In a first time it could permit you to tame metal clay!!
It's just my opinion but I hope it'll help you! Wink

Have a nice day!

I'm considering to buy the M40, I had some doubts about temperature and time but I saw on the shop that is the time for cooking glass and metal clay with the m40. there is also steel clay!! At home I already have: silver artclay, white bronze, classic bronze and copper prometheus, now I'm thinking to buy steel and silver meteorclay. I'm gonna need charbon actif de cocco?

Welcome to our forum !

Yes, the coconut charcoal is needed for copper, bronze and steel metal clays.

The 999/1000 silver metal clay don't need charcoal.
The 925/1000 silver metal clay need charcoal.

No problem, it's a pleasure.

It's possible to fire little ceramics... just slow down the rise in temperature between 20°C and 300°C. (because there's water vapour in the object). Otherwise, the vapour ca break down your object.
You can complet the natural air drying in a domestic oven before the firing in you high temperature kiln (indispensable if the high temp' kiln don't have a regulator...like the M40 kiln).

The M40 kiln is not regulated : the temperature increase very fast. It's very dangerous for ceramics. That being said, it's possible to make successful ceramics firings !
